School Trip to Chelungpu Fault Preservation Park

At 8 a.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018, the fourth grade students boarded buses on a trip to Chelungpu Fault Preservation Park. All the students were excited. The earthquake which happened on September 21, 1999 was the biggest in recent times. However, it occurred before these students were born, so it was a good opportunity for them to learn more about it.

First, all the students were given a talk in English explaining the significance of the fault. Then, the students were given 3D glasses, and watched a movie, showing the landscape around the fault which covered an area of 90 km. This gave the students a sense of really being immersed in the environment.

After this, the students were taken to the Fault Preservation Hall. Here, they got to learn the cause of the fault and to see the different layers of earth that make up the fault.

Finally, the students were given a card, which was like a puzzle. They could fold it in different ways to make six different pictures of the Chelungpu Fault Preservation Park. The students had a lot of fun with this and were still playing with it days after our visit.
