Taiwan–Japan Exchange Enters a New Chapter as Wagor Strengthens Its Grassroots Football Program
臺日交流再添新章!足球運動向下扎根
Wagor International School has officially signed a partnership agreement with Japan’s Oita Trinita Football Club. This marks the first time since the J.League was founded in 1991 that one of its professional teams has teamed up with an overseas educational institution to develop youth soccer talent.
In the future, Oita Trinita will periodically send professional coaches—both in person and online—to guide Wagor students from kindergarten through high school. The two sides will also promote student exchange programs, training, and friendly matches, creating a bridge that connects sports and education across borders.
Oita Trinita’s President, Masakaze Ozawa, said that this collaboration is a meaningful international challenge for the club. “We’re bringing Oita Trinita’s youth training system to Taichung,” he said. “Through soccer, we hope to foster positive cultural exchange and inspire more young players who can one day shine on the global stage.”
Wagor International School’s Executive Director, Sabrina Wu, shared that Japan is a leader in Asian soccer, and Oita Trinita has a proven track record in youth development and soccer education. “This partnership gives our students a rare chance to directly experience a professional Japanese club’s youth training system,” she said. “Through soccer, they’ll also build teamwork, gain a global perspective, and grow both mentally and physically.”
In addition, Taichung City and Japan’s Oita Prefecture have been sister cities for eight years, with frequent exchanges in tourism, cycling, and hot spring culture. This new partnership continues the strong friendship between Taiwan and Japan and takes international educational exchange to the next level.
