Japanese Cherry Blossom Viewing at Wagor -International Culture Week for Children’s Day 2020

“The world is Wagor’s classroom!” This is the curriculum planning philosophy at Wagor International School - Elementary School (Xitun Campus). A multi-cultural teaching model has always been at the heart of Wagor International School’s vision.
This year, the school conducted Children’s Day activities as part of the teaching curriculum for promoting "こ ん に ち は" Japanese culture. Students explored a  series of Japanese culture-themed lessons as if they were in Japan.
These wonderful activities included understanding Japanese geography, fostering an appreciation of Japanese art and music, making traditional carp streamers, and other related lessons to explore Japanese culture through teacher-led discussions. The lessons also connected multi-disciplinary topics, such as language and life skills, with fun thematic activities like giving students a taste of Japanese culinary delights and trying Japanese fruit. This multi-cultural teaching model ensured a discerning and culturally rich Children’s Day experience for students.
The highlight of our Children's Day celebration was moving the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival to our campus. The campus was filled with Japanese cherry blossom landscapes and Japanese themed art exhibitions, which showcased unique cherry blossoms by showing the many different variations of these beautiful flowers. The celebration was further enhanced by children wearing Japanese costumes all around the campus with hundreds of carp streamers blowing in the gentle breeze as a backdrop to demonstrate the creativity and artistic expression of the school’s faculty and students.
Yue Ching Shen, principal of Wagor International School - Elementary School (Xitun Campus), joined the teachers and students in wearing traditional Japanese clothing and tasting the authentic cuisine. The concept of a "World Classroom" was fully embodied by the essence of this activity as a way to cultivate students as citizens of the world. The school has been working diligently toward this goal, and this is the reason that Wagor International School is seen to be at the forefront of education in Taiwan.
