Get a First-hand Students’ Experience in Fire Safety Demonstration 

Remembering simple fire prevention tips could be a matter of life and death. On Monday morning, we had our annual Fire Safety Demonstration. Students got to participate in a simulation of being in an actual burning building. In groups of five or six, students walked through the fire department’s “Smoke House,” which is a fire prevention tool, used to show students what it’s like to be in a fire. A machine fills the room with harmless “smoke” to simulate a real fire. They also learned how to use a fire extinguisher and a fire hose. Have a smoke free day!

Here are a few tips we should remember:

1.The P.A.S.S. method when using a fire extinguisher：

 (1)Pull the pin.

 (2)Aim the stream toward the base of the fire.

 (3)Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly.

 (4)Sweep side to side.

2.How to use a fire hydrant (indoor model):

 (1)Open the hydrant.

 (2)Pull out both the nozzle and hose.

 (3)Aim at the base of the fire.

 (4)Pull the nozzle handle and direct the stream to the base of fire.

葳格國際學校小學部西屯校區在3月22日辦理「消防宣導」活動，邀請臺中市政府消防局水湳分隊到校，分別進行「消防設備與滅火器使用」、「室內消防栓操作」及「火場濃煙體驗」分站宣導。

消防設備與滅火器使用(拉、瞄、壓、掃)

介紹常見的消防設備，不僅說明防火與逃生知識，更讓學生實際體驗乾粉滅火器的操作，讓學童在遇到火警狀況時，能夠正確使用滅火器，將傷害與損失減到最低。

室內消防栓介紹操作(按、開、拿、拉、轉)

室內消防栓則是大家最常見的設備，但小朋友幾乎沒看過真實的樣子，藉由這次宣導讓小朋友一窺究竟，了解室內消防栓管線及操作方式，並進行消防栓噴水的實際操作體驗。

火場濃煙體驗(小火快逃，濃煙關門)

火場第一殺手為濃煙，內含致命毒氣及高溫，若濃煙沒那麼大，就要趕快逃走，如果火勢漸長有蔓延趨勢，或煙太大擋住路線，不要貿然滅火，應立即關門阻擋火源，並把門縫塞住阻擋濃煙，呼救等待救援。

這次的宣導活動，除了讓小朋友可以操作消防栓、滅火器等救命武器外，還模擬火場濃煙瀰漫的的體驗情境，讓小朋友了解火災現場的舉步維艱，更能體會日常防火的重要性。本次消防宣導重在培養帶得走的素養能力，未來如果遇到類似事件，葳格的孩子們才能保護自己遠離危險的處境。

過修齊校長表示：「國際間公安火災傷亡事件頻繁，本次宣導著重強化學童安全與防火逃生知識，增加在發生火災時的生存機率，還可以保護家人。」也對水湳分隊蒞校宣導與傳遞正確的防火觀念特別致謝，而葳格的孩子也學到寶貴的消防知識。
